Scared to Take the Leap? 7 Inspirational Quotes to Empower You
By Clare Josa

Sometimes we know we want to make changes in our life, but we're too scared to take the first step.

Whether it's something as simple as breaking a habit or something as major as embarking on a new life direction, change can terrify us into non-action.

Here are 7 of my favourite quotes to inspire your confidence in making the shifts you've been dreaming of.

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." - Ancient Chinese Proverb
So often we are daunted by the enormity of what we want to achieve. Yet, if we break it down into baby steps, suddenly it's nowhere near as scary. Is there a baby step you could take right now?

"In life, our biggest regrets are usually the things we didn't do." - anon
Sure, we make a mess of things at times. But when we reach the end of our days, you can bet that most of our biggest regrets will be the things we didn't get to do. So how about grabbing the opportunity, every day, to create the life you've always dreamed of living?

"Whether you believe you can or you believe you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford
Nobody believed that a human being could run a mile in less than 4 minutes, until Roger Bannister proved it. And, within months, top athletes worldwide were matching his time. Why? Because he had helped them believe they could and, until they reached that stage, they couldn't. Is there something you would love to do, if you believed you could?

"When you leave your perch of security and fly with freedom, that is when your dreams will come true." - unknown
Our dreams don't come true by us staying where we have always been and doing what we have always been doing - unless you're already living your dreams, of course! What would it take for you to want your dreams enough to let go of your perch of security?

"Spread your wings and fly. Ever noticed that birds never look backwards?" - Edie Galley
So much of our time is spent in dwelling on and analysing the past. Yet if we're always looking in the rear view mirror, we can't see where we're going and aren't very likely to get there. Do you know where you're heading?

"You'll never know, unless you take the chance."
How many times in life do we let opportunity pass us by? Often it's only with hindsight that we can even see the chance was there. How about keeping a lookout for every open door?

"If you don't believe in yourself, who else will?" - Clare Josa
We might be scared by the changes we want to make, but if you break them down into baby steps and believe you might be able to do it, then you are going to succeed. There's no point having a team of cheerleaders around you until you are ready to accept their message. Is it time to start believing in yourself?

If you've got a change you want to make in your life, but would like someone to hold your hand as you take that leap, you might consider some personal mentoring.

A good mentor can help you:

  • pin down what it is you really want

  • get clear about why you want to make changes

  • stay motivated, even if hurdles come up

  • break through barriers that may have blocked you in the past

  • actually enjoy the experience of changing, moving towards the future you really want

Your mentor could be a friend or family member you trust, a work colleague or even a professional mentor or coach.

The main thing is that your relationship is built on trust and that your mentor guides you to finding the solutions that will work for you, rather than telling you what to do.

Is there a change you'd like to make in your life today?

Asking for help is a sign of strength and commitment, not weakness. Who could you ask to hold your hand today?

If you're on your happiness journey and would like some happiness quick fixes, there are great, easy techniques you can apply right now, to start feeling happier in less than 5 minutes.
