Last year, Belle-Noir Magazine was part of the Curvy Collective, an elite group of bloggers that was selected to bring all of the behind the scenes details about the 1st ever Full Figured Fashion Week NYC to the plus community. I am pleased to announce that I will once again be part of the Collective bringing you all of the details on events, happenings, and more surrounding FFFWeek 2010!
So what's new this year? Check out some of the details below:
The Face of Full Figured Fashion Week™ Cover Model Search
Sponsored by The Plus Academy, and Daily Venus Diva Magazine, the Face of Full Figured Fashion Week™ Cover Model Search is all about reinventing curvaceous-plus beauty, and is open to all photogenic plus size women sizes 14 and up. This call for models is an exceptional chance of a lifetime for curvy beauties to be seen, and the prizes--including paid travel to New York and free professional headshots--would make any woman feel like royalty. The contest runs from March 29th to April 29th and the winning entry will be selected via online vote. This is a great idea and I have to applaud Ms. DeVoe for bringing this idea to Full Figured Fashion Week™. As a plus size woman who is larger than most plus models, it is often frustrating that we cannot see plus size women above the size of a 16 or 18 on fashion show runways. With this competition, there is a chance for a plus size woman who might have dreams of being a model, but does not fit the requirements of most fashion show runways to have the spotlight shined on her and be in the forefront of Full Figured Fashion Week™. Here's hoping that maybe Daily Venus Diva Magazine might sweeten the deal and include a photoshoot for the winning young lady as well (beyond the free professional headshots)!
Full Figured Fashion Week(tm) 2010
This year's Full Figured Fashion Week(tm) line-up promises great things for aspiring models and designers while offering access to new looks for fashionistas size 14 and up. The four days of panels and events will be capped off with a full-scale fashion showcase hosted by the original plus-size supermodel, Emme. "Emme was the perfect choice for us," says FFFWeek founder Gwen DeVoe. "Her contributions to the plus-size fashion industry are unparalleled." Models and designers from all over the country have submitted audition tapes and portfolios to win a spot in the finale showcase. DeVoe says, "We're looking for new faces and new looks that will really wow the crowd. This a celebration of curvy bodies--so we're looking for designers who know how to show them off best."
In addition to the finale fashion showcase, confirmed highlights for Full Figured Fashion Week(tm) 2010 include:
- A panel for aspiring models moderated by Sharon Quinn, the "Original Runway Diva"
- A guided shopping tour of NYC's plus-size shopping hotspots organized by Marie Denee, Founder of The Curvy Fashionista
- A day-long shopping expo
- A panel on the state of the curvy community including some of the freshest voices in the plus size community
